Spain attracts young British buyers
It’s not just older Brits who are likely to buy property in Spain, according to a new survey from Banco Halifax Hispania. In fact, most of those dreaming of a place in the sun are well below retirement age.
When those surveyed were asked where they would most like to live overseas, Spain was voted the most popular European destination. And seven out of ten of those people were under the age of 55.
And of those who had already bought a property abroad, half were under the age of 35, with only 4% over 65.
“It has long been assumed that only the older generation is buying property in Spain, but this is far from the case,” says Ian Smith, head of European Operations at Halifax plc. “It is also proving to be popular amongst younger age groups. Spain is an ideal destination to set up a second home as British people can benefit from shorter, more frequent trips to their property at affordable prices.
