Gay and lesbian southern Spain
In June 2005, Spanish Parliament legalised gay marriage, granting homosexual couples the same adoption and inheritance rights as heterosexual ones. Despite strong disapproval from the Roman Catholic Church, the move won widespread support from the public.
As a result, Spain is becoming an increasingly popular destination for gay holiday-makers and homebuyers. Many of the resorts around the coast of southern Spain have a good selection of bars and clubs, and there are plenty of support organisations throughout the region.
