What’s it like in El Faro?
El Faro is a quiet residential area, with a famous landmark lighthouse, from which the area gets its name (El Faro is the Spanish word for lighthouse). It has beautiful beaches, breathtaking sea views, is close to the bustling and cosmopolitan town of Fuengirola and just a short drive from Málaga and its international airport. El Faro is in a perfect position for those seeking peace and quiet combined with good transport connections and access to the great facilities in the surrounding areas.
There’s a wide variety of property in El Faro, whether you prefer an apartment, a townhouse or a villa. All types of property are in high demand because of its convenient position so close to Fuengirola and easy access to El Faro’s small, but outstandingly beautiful beach. Idyllic stretches of pure white sand are complemented by some excellent fish restaurants serving succulent seafood and traditional Spanish dishes.
Stepping Out in El Faro
El Faro is the perfect base from which to explore Fuengirola, Benalmádena or the cultural delights of Málaga. Fuengirola is a buzzing resort town with a popular weekly market and endless beautiful Blue Flag beaches. There’s the Moorish castle of Sohail, which can be seen high on a hill above the town, close to the mouth of the River Fuengirola. The castle was originally built in the 10th Century and it now plays host to open-air festivals and concerts during the sultry summer nights.
If you prefer water sports, there’s no shortage close to El Faro, with plenty of fishing, sailing and scuba diving and families will enjoy boat trips to see the dolphins. There are also two nearby water parks, one in Mijas Costa and one in Torremolinos. Benalmádena is just 10 minutes drive away, with its award-winning Puerto Marina yacht harbour or the traditional and picturesque Benalmádena Pueblo. During the summer the Tivoli World Amusement Park in Arroyo de la Miel is open all night for you to enjoy yourself under the stars. During the day time, there’s a fabulous cable car, the Teleférico, which will take you to the top of the mountain to enjoy the most breathtaking views to be found on the Coast.
If all that wasn’t enough, El Faro is perfectly placed to enjoy any of the numerous golf courses in the area. There are at least twenty championship golf courses close to El Faro, including the prestigious La Cala Resort with three of its own courses, as well as Mijas Golf and Alhaurín Golf.
Healthy, Wealthy and Wise
Visitors to El Faro and its lucky residents enjoy healthcare that’s second to none, thanks to its proximity to Fuengirola, Benalmádena and Málaga. The area has a wide range of services and amenities and is within easy reach of many more. There are two major public health centres in Fuengirola, plenty of smaller surgeries and a major, fully-equipped public hospital, the Carlos Haya, in Málaga. There’s also a brand new private hospital, the Xanit hospital, just a short drive away in Benalmádena. For residents with children, there are plenty of good quality Spanish, international and bi-lingual schools in and around Fuengirola, serving a growing expatriate population. The Peter Pan Nursery and Costa Kinder Care are just two of the nursery schools in the Benalmádena area and St. Anthony’s College in Fuengirola and Sunnyview School in Torremolinos are two of the many combined primary and secondary international schools which are close by.
