What's it like?

Bordering a 7-kilometer stretch of the Mar Menor – the largest salt water lagoon in Europe, separated from the Mediterranean Sea by the narrow La Manga isthmus – Los Alcazares is a charming small town famous for its sandy beaches and excellent water sports. Originally known as Al Kazar (the Arabic for ‘palace’), its long history dates back to the times of the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans and Moors. Nowadays an internationally acclaimed holiday destination, it was formerly a fishing and agricultural community. Clear warm waters, a palm-fringed promenade, spectacular scenery, and a relaxed, friendly and informal atmosphere have also combined to make the area a firm favourite for the hundreds of British and northern European expats who own a property here.
