Calpe
What’s it like?
In the thirties, writers such as Hemingway spent summers here, under the shadow of the jutting coastal headland Pinon de Ifach – the highest rock on the Mediterranean shore at 332m high. Since 1987, a Natural Park preserves its unique ecological treasures and organised groups can visit the summit offering one of the finest views of the Costa Blanca. Over the centuries, Calpe retreated inland for greater protection from marauding pirates, and strong walls were built around the town in the 15th century. The area is a firm favourite with expat property owners.
