Meet Andrea Böck: “2014 is going to be a wonderful year for the Costa del Sol!”

Andrea Böck, founder of Ambience Home Design

Andrea Böck: I can ski or snowboard in the Sierra Nevada all morning, and be back in time for a late lunch in Puerto Banús!

Andrea Böck has had a passion for beautiful properties, beautiful architecture and beautiful furniture for as long as she can remember. Originally from Düsseldorf, she spent a holiday with a friend living on the Costa del Sol who offered her a place to stay if ever she wanted to relocate here.

Back home in Germany, and gazing out of her studio window at the seemingly interminable cloudy grey skies, 13 years ago she decided to take her up on her offer, leaving her native Germany to move to the Coast. Founding Ambience Home Design in San Pedro de Alcántara in 2002, Andrea has never looked back…

VIVA San Pedro… our expansion continues with another great new office!

The new VIVA Partner office in San Pedro de Alcántara

VIVA San Pedro manager Daniel Martínez outside our brand new, centrally located regional office

How time flies! In January 2013 it was with great pleasure that I announced the opening of a new VIVA Partner office in Alhaurín el Grande, and since then, more branches followed last year with the inaugurations of VIVA Nueva Andalucía, VIVA La Heredia – Benahavís and VIVA Golden Mile. All of which were preceded in 2012, of course, by new VIVA Partner offices in Elviria, La Cala, Benalmádena, Fuengirola and Calahonda, strategically complementing our VIVA Centro HQ.

So now, just 12 months on, I’m thrilled to be able to tell you about the recent opening of our latest VIVA Partner office – this time in San Pedro de Alcántara which, in addition to covering the entire municipality, will also be responsible for the area to the west of the town, towards Estepona

San Pedro tunnel to open in June

Described by Marbella mayor Ángeles Muñoz as being of “major importance” to the future of the town, the long-awaited opening of the San Pedro de Alcántara underpass – on the N340/A7 coast road – is scheduled to take place in June 2012, just in time for the busy summer season.

Costing nearly €90 million, three times the original estimate, work on the 1km tunnel began in 2007 and further plans also include the development of a mostly pedestrianised 90,000 square metre area above ground.

Although the date of the official opening hasn’t been confirmed yet, since development minister Ana Pastor and other bigwigs will be in Málaga on 26 June for the inauguration of the airport’s 2nd runway, it seems likely that both events could take place on the same day – a double celebration for the Costa del Sol!

San Pedro's time capsule

Vega del Mar Basilica

San Pedro de Alcántara's Paleochristian Basilica at Linda Vista Baja

Google San Pedro’s Basilica, and what comes up first is one of the Vatican City’s most famous of historic monuments, founded by Pope Julius II and built between 1506 and 1626. But we’re not in Rome… we’re on the Costa del Sol, and the Basilica we’re talking about is in San Pedro de Alcántara.

But while it’s a modern, thriving and cosmopolitan resort – just to the west of Puerto Banús and forming part of the municipality of Marbella – San Pedro is also home to the Vega del Mar Paleochristian Basilica located in Linda Vista Baja. Dating from the 4th and 5th centuries, it’s one of the few remaining ruins from the time of the Byzantine domination of Southern Spain and is the only surviving example of its type anywhere in Europe.

Having just undergone a period of restoration, the Basilica was opened to the public last week and can be visited on Fridays between 11am and 1pm. Guided tours for schools and other groups can also be arranged by contacting the Municipal Cultural Delegation, on T. (+34) 952 765 996.
